As your advocate PEAK has options available for your near-term disk needs such as delayed billing, financing, warehouse facilities and more.
…………………………………..
You have probably been hearing about possible disruptions in the manufacturing and distribution of disk due to the tsunami that affected Japan and the recent flooding in Thailand. Those disruptions are now beginning to impact the North American market.
In an article last week IDC indicated their belief that manufacturers will ship between 70 – 90 percent of the drives they normally do. During the past two weeks, PEAK has begun to see some initial delays causing disruptions for our clients. We anticipate that this will continue at least through the first quarter of 2012. We have also noticed that pricing fluctuations on orders depending on the availability when they are placed.
While some manufacturers, including IBM and NetApp, have disk in stock that will see them through December, they have indicated they are unsure of availability heading into 2012. One manufacturer has begun to hold orders on stand-alone disk sales for the remainder of 2011 as to ensure enough product for their server lines. PEAK has also had some clients move disk purchases into 2011 on projects not scheduled to begin until 2012 due to the uncertainty of availability.
If you are in the process of potentially purchasing additional disk for your environment, PEAK recommends that you evaluate the importance of your 2012 projects to see if a delay in disk shipments may adversely affect your business plans. The team at PEAK can help you determine the best option for near term disk purchases including delayed billing, financing, warehousing and more.
