Peak Resources Community Series
Giving back to the Denver Community is important to PEAK.
PEAK Resources has been giving back to the communities where we live and work since our inception, in 1991. As an organization, we have a broad range of volunteerism, but we have put great energy and focus towards an area that our team holds in the highest esteem, Education and Student Well-Being. Specifically, Youth Education and well-being.
ABOUT Food For Thought
Food for Thought is a Denver-based organization that is making a big difference in its efforts to eliminate weekend hunger for children in our local schools by providing PowerSacks each Friday of the school year. Each PowerSack has 9-13 items, enough to feed a family of four 2 meals.
Every Friday of the school year, rain, shine, sleet or snowstorm, an army of volunteers comes together at the crack of dawn to assemble more than 4,000 individual PowerSacks that are distributed to more than 38 local schools. Volunteers from PEAK are honored to be a part of this movement. PEAK Team Members show up each Friday to be a part of this incredible effort and, organizationally, PEAK supports Food for Thought with monetary donations and sponsorships.
Food For Thought Denver strives to eliminate weekend hunger for children in the Denver area by providing food PowerSacks.
We believe that no child should go hungry.
What We Do About It
During the school year, we provide each student with a PowerSack to take home every other weekend. Each PowerSack has 9-13 items, enough to feed a family of four 2 meals. FFT targets schools where 90% or more of the students are eligible for free and reduced lunch programs (income of a family of four is less than $29K/year to qualify).
Because we give every student who attend s FFT target school a PowerSack, many of the barriers that traditionally interfere with distribution are removed. We encourage community tables and food pantries the schools we serve to help make sure that no food is wasted and those who need food the most have access to extra or unwanted items.
Volunteers are the heart and soul of Food For Thought! Each week, more than 100 volunteers help pick-up, pack and deliver PowerSacks to the children we serve.
- FFT is a 100% volunteer program
- The generous FFT Advisory Board covers all administrative and fundraising costs
- 100% of all donations are used to buy food for our program
Rock-a-Belly VI: Childhood Hunger Awareness Event
PEAK was a proud sponsor at Food for Thought’s annual music and food festival, Rock-a-Belly. This amazing event helps raise money to fund another year of weekend PowerSacks for Denver’s hungry school kids.
